The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has called for expression of interest for the positions of speaker and deputy speaker of the 11th Parliament from the parliamentarians on their ticket.
This has been revealed by the party electoral commission boss Dr Tanga Odoi at party Electoral commission headquarter in Kyadondo, Kampala.
“in line with article 39 (10) (a) of the NRM Constitution, the party electoral commission shall hold party primaries for the above mentioned positions through secret ballot on 23rd/05/2021, at 10:00am-2:00pm, a day before parliamentary activities on 24th, Monday, May, 2021.” Said Tanga Odoi
Tanga says that, expression of interest by party aspiring candidates will commence this, Wednesday 19th up to 21st, Friday,21st, May 2021, and a total of 337 NRM elected legislators of the 11th parliament will be the only legible electorate.
Tanga has however cautioned the party aspiring candidates against involving into any illegal practices such as bribery, procuring ineligible persons to vote, soliciting for votes after closure of campaigns among others.
It should be noted that the call for interest is as a result of the NRM’s Central Executive Committee CEC sitting on Monday differing the matter to the caucus and them remaining with the vetting power after they failed to decide on who to support between Hon. Rebecca Kadaga Alitwala and Hon. Jacob Oulanya
