Uganda Receives Four More LRA Combatants as Part of Ongoing Peace Agreement

By Namuli N Racheal

Government of Uganda together with other neighbouring countries including Central African Republic came to a mutual understanding through an agreement regarding securing LRA combatants’ lives who are willing to surrender their weapons to government.

This MOU was signed in 2020 and since then about 150 combatants have been brought to Uganda and given shelter in one of the camps in Gulu.

Last night, the four combatants were warmly welcomed in Uganda at Entebbe international Airport by the minster of state for northern Uganda Keneth Omona together with other dignitaries.

Among the combatants was Judith Acayi who was Konys wife plus her three children, Kony Pope, Akidi Betty and Angom Mayisa.

Keneth Omona said “we have enjoyed this relationship for five good years, and it has enabled us to receive over 157 combatants some of whom were not citizens of uganda, and we have managed to equip them with skills in the camp”.

He also added that by May this year they will be graduating and give them start up kits to be able to manage their lives in their communities plus shelter.
