Tragedy: Boda Boda Rider Kills Six Family Members in House Fire

Shock and grief engulfed residents of Bukasa Kirinya in Bweyogerere, Kira town council in Wakiso district, when Motorcycle (a boda boda) rider set fire on the house and instantly killed six members of his family.

The shocking incident happened after midnight at the home of Ssekabira Fred aged 45 who believed to have committed suicide following misunderstanding with his wife.

Luke Owoyesigyire Kampala metropolitan deputy police spokesperson identified the five family members as Gonja Winniefred aged 35 the mother, Nabunya Gloria, 20 years senior six student, Nakakira Peace, 16 years senior two student, Nabula Brian, 7 and Nakamya Helena, 9 years a pupil at Kirinya Church of Uganda primary school.

It is alleged that at approximately 3:00 AM, a loud blast was heard from the residence of one Ssekibila Fred.

He adds that the Concerned neighbours rushed to offer assistance, however, the fire had already engulfed the house, making rescue efforts extremely difficult.

Police were alerted, and the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services team responded swiftly, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to adjacent properties.

During their inspection, they sadly discovered six bodies in the debris. Owoyesigyire further adds that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be established, 

According to Kabali James the boda boda chairman at Bweyogerere stage where the deceased was working told the police that, late Ssekabira sold his motorcycle at 1.5 million shillings and got paid 1 million cash and received balance of 500,000 on Tuesday morning.

He adds that on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, he keeps on telling his friends at stage to prepare for his burial, because that was his last day in life’ says Kabali.

” We believe he might have been committed suicide by killing him self and family members.” Ssekabira’s friend suggests.

However, Owoyesigyire adds that, this line of inquiry remains under investigation and is yet to be confirmed. The six bodies have been conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for postmortem.
