IGP Byakagaba Creates Three New Police Regions to Enhance Service Delivery

By Robert Segawa

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abbas Byakagaba, has established three new police regions as part of efforts to bring police services closer to the people in targeted districts.

The creation of the new regions is detailed in the recently published transfer and deployment list of gazetted officers. This includes the appointment of new Regional Police Commanders (RPCs), their deputies, and Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) heads, who will oversee the operationalization of the new jurisdictions.

The new policing regions are as follows:

  1. Budongo Region – Carved out of the Albertine region, its headquarters will be based in Masindi. It will cover the districts of Masindi, Buliisa, and Kiryandongo.
  2. South Kyoga Region – Formerly part of East Kyoga, this region will have its headquarters in Kumi District. It will comprise Kumi, Bukedea, Ngora, and Serere districts.
  3. Masaka North Region – Separated from Greater Masaka, its headquarters will be in Lyantonde District. The region will include Bukomansimbi, Ssembabule, and Lyantonde itself.
