The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaba, has assured Ugandans of maximum security during the upcoming general elections scheduled for January 2026.
IGP Byakagaba made the remarks on Wednesday afternoon while officiating at the pass-out ceremony of over 40 senior officers from the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda Prisons Service. The event took place at the Police Senior Command and Staff College in Bwebajja, Wakiso District.

“I want to assure my fellow Ugandans that the police and our sister security agencies are ready to deliver the most peaceful election in 2026,” Byakagaba said.
He emphasized that the police leadership is committed to improving the welfare of junior officers by addressing challenges related to salaries, accommodation, transport, and uniforms.
“As police management, we are planning to improve accommodation, provide complete uniforms, and ensure better feeding for lower-ranking officers in the force,” he added.

Byakagaba also mentioned ongoing efforts to mobilize resources and improve the operational efficiency of the force, including enhanced mobility and logistical support.
Speaking at the same event, State Minister for Internal Affairs, Gen. David Muhoozi, stressed the need to expand the Police Senior Command and Staff College to meet modern standards of training for security forces.

Gen. Muhoozi noted that the current location of the college near a major road poses security risks and is not ideal for a training institution of its kind. He urged the newly graduated officers to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired during their one-year course to strengthen national security.
Other notable attendees included State Minister for Public Service Mary Mugasha, Commissioner General of Prisons Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, and Dr. Eng. Badru Kiggundu, Presidential Advisor on Infrastructure.
