The Democratic Front (DF) Electoral Commission has officially nominated Hon. Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa, the Member of Parliament for Entebbe Municipality, to contest in the party’s upcoming primaries ahead of the national elections scheduled for January 2026.

Kakembo joins a group of other aspirants—including councilors and division mayors from Entebbe Municipality—who are seeking the party’s endorsement to compete in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking shortly after his nomination, Hon. Kakembo expressed confidence in his decision to leave the National Unity Platform (NUP) for the Democratic Front. He emphasized his commitment to engaging in mature and constructive politics aimed at national development, distancing himself from what he described as “mediocre tactics.”

Addressing supporters at the nomination event, DF President Hon. Mathias Mpuuga praised Kakembo’s move as courageous and visionary. He applauded the MP for embracing politics rooted in principle and reason, and urged voters in Entebbe Municipality to reject politics driven by convenience.
“Hon. Kakembo represents the kind of reasoned and transformative leadership Uganda needs. He is a formidable legislator committed to real change,” Mpuuga said.

In a related development, the DF Electoral Commission also nominated Moses Banalekaki, a youthful party member vying for the position of Kampala City Lord Mayor.
Speaking to the media after his nomination, Banalekaki said Kampala urgently needs energetic and innovative leadership. He pledged to represent the interests of the younger generation, which he noted constitutes the majority of the city’s population.
