Residents of mayuge kityerera and malongo sub county in Mayuge District have called upon government to intervene in their over 16382 acres of land which they claim is being grabbed by mafias.
According to Prince Muzamilu Nkwighe from Bunore Bunanumba chiefdom, they repossessed the land on a presidential directive in 2011 when he was in Mayuge with a condition of sharing part of with the National Forest authority (NFA).

The residents abided by the presidential directive and half of the land has been used by NFA for afforestation but to their shock the authority and some officials from government and the Kyabazinga kingdom are not only encroaching further on their land but also evicting them which has led to losS of lives and properties of the residents.
The Mayuge district based chiefdom of Bunore Bunanumba which is one of the 11 chiefdoms of Busoga who claim to be the rightful owners of this land, assert that their ancestors had hosted Europeans in the late 80s who were using the same land for afforestation.

Princes from Bunore bunanumba chiefdom have told this website that the land grabbers are using the presidential directive to grab the land claiming to be the rightful owners since the president said it was back in the hands of the common people.
The chiefdom now wants the president Museveni to intervene into their matters since the land grabbers are evicting people, selling it and leasing it with impunity since they are not the rightful owners.
Apparently over 10000 people are on the verge of being displaced by the land grabbers hence they have called for the intervention of all relevant bodies.
