President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assured the nation that Uganda’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is on track to double over the next five years, projecting growth from USD 66 billion in 2025 to even greater heights by 2030. The president made these remarks while addressing journalists from the Lango sub-region at Baralegi State Lodge in Otuke District.
Citing the country’s significant economic progress rising from a GDP of USD 30 billion in 2020 to USD 66 billion in 2025, President Museveni attributed the growth to strong economic foundations and government-led initiatives designed to promote sustainable development.
He urged the people of the Lango sub-region to move away from subsistence farming and fully embrace government wealth creation strategies, particularly the Four-Acre Model. This model encourages farmers to efficiently utilize small land holdings for maximum productivity and income generation.
Addressing national infrastructure, President Museveni revealed that the Ministry of Works and Transport will soon roll out a comprehensive nationwide road maintenance program. He acknowledged delays in the ministry’s performance but attributed them to the prolonged administrative handover process.
On education, the president condemned the ongoing strike by a section of arts teachers demanding higher pay, labeling their actions as unconstructive during a period of national economic transformation.
President Museveni also outlined plans to regulate fishing activities to prevent over-congestion in lakes and ensure the long-term sustainability of fish stocks. He emphasized the potential of fish farming in wetlands as a lucrative alternative and pledged to diversify wetland usage under environmentally sustainable practices.
These were among the key highlights from the President’s media engagement at Baralegi State Lodge, marking a continued commitment to economic growth and transformation across Uganda.
