Morulinga State Lodge, Napak District – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ruled out the possibility of renewed cattle rustling in the Karamoja sub-region, citing strengthened security measures and a successful disarmament campaign.

Speaking during a media interaction with journalists from the Karamoja sub-region at Morulinga State Lodge, President Museveni assured residents of sustained peace and stability following the recovery of over 41,000 illegal firearms from local communities.

The President reaffirmed his government’s commitment to scaling up counter-crime interventions through the sub-county policing model, which aims to enhance community security and quick response to emerging threats.

President Museveni attributed the challenges facing government projects in Karamoja to ideological shortcomings among some local leaders, urging citizens to elect leaders who understand and promote the principles of socioeconomic transformation.

He outlined several priority areas for the region’s revival, including: Enhancement of household wealth creation, Promotion of industrialization and mineral development, Expansion of tourism, and Implementation of broad water-for-production programs to boost agriculture and livestock productivity.

In the education sector, the President backed the call for compulsory boarding schools across Karamoja to improve school attendance and retention rates among children.

Additionally, he proposed the installation of more weighbridges to regulate truck loads on tarmac roads and protect the region’s infrastructure.

Addressing concerns within the ruling NRM party, President Museveni cautioned members intending to contest as independents after losing in party primaries, emphasizing the importance of party discipline and unity.
