Gov’t donates relief to Karenga district residents affected by fire outbreak, wild animals

Government through the office of the prime minister has donated relief items and home useable materials to residents whose gardens and houses were destroyed by wild animals and unknown source of fire that razed their houses.

The relief donations which included Sugar, maize flour, mosquito nets, jerry cans and Tarpaulins where delivered by the minister for ethics and integrity Hon Akello Roseline on Monday morning in kapedo sub county.

The Minister’s visit followed the call for help from the people of Nabutella village, the most affected area.

Two weeks back over 50 homes caught fire from unknown source in Nabutella village, Kapedo Sub County in Karenga district leaving 300 people with nowhere to sleep while maize gardens had also been cleared by wild animals three weeks back from Kidepo Valley national Game Park.

Mukose Jonathan, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) who also doubles as the head of district disaster of Karenga applauded government for the support and responding to their urgent call.

The Area leaders and residents requested government to immediately put in place measures to safe guard wild animals from reaching their gardens.

In the same way, the area member of parliament for Dodoth west Hon. Batomu Benkolyanga accused the Uganda Wildlife Authority UWA of defying the presidential directive of fencing off  Kidepo valley park in order to stop the wild animals from going into residents gardens and destroy their plantations.

Karenga district is the most fertile district in Karamoja region and it is the food hub for the region thus the disaster has affected the entire region.
