Museveni Pledges Major Road Works, Fertilizer Scheme and Expanded Jobs Program During Kanungu Campaign Rally

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has announced an ambitious infrastructure and economic development plan for Kanungu District and the wider Kigezi Sub-region as part of his next term agenda.

Addressing supporters at the NRM Presidential campaign rally at Rwere Playgrounds in Kanungu, President Museveni confirmed plans to tarmac major road networks including the 149 km Hamurwa–Kerere–Kanungu–Kanyantorogo–Butogota–Buhoma–Ikumba road and the 87 km Ishasha–Katunguru road section. He said these upgrades will enhance trade, tourism, and service delivery across the region.

Museveni noted that the NRM government has consistently invested in economic infrastructure in Kanungu as part of broader socio-economic transformation efforts. He urged residents to preserve the prevailing peace and stability, warning against instabilities witnessed in neighboring DRC.

The President also unveiled a plan to operationalize a fertilizer scheme for tea, coffee, and cotton farmers, promising government assistance grants to boost yields and profitability for both small and large-scale farmers.

Museveni further guided residents on the importance of differentiating development from wealth creation, encouraging households to engage in productive enterprises. He pledged to expand the 4-Acre Model Initiative to cover more families in his next term.

On job creation, Museveni highlighted the impact of Uganda’s industrial parks—such as those in Mbale, Namanve, Kapeeka, and Mukono—which he said have generated over 1.3 million jobs, adding that more parks are planned. He emphasized additional employment opportunities in commercial agriculture, the services sector, and ICT.

The President rallied the community to support free universal education in all government schools, saying it will enhance job creation and wealth generation for the country. He cited success stories from the Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs, where trained youths have become self-employed and active in wealth creation.

Museveni reaffirmed the NRM government’s readiness to deliver more social services and national development if given another mandate, listing achievements in peace, security, economic growth, job creation, market expansion, and regional integration.

He also encouraged leaders and residents to embrace prioritization and disciplined budgeting to accelerate socio-economic transformation.

Meanwhile, Anita Among, the NRM Second National Vice Chairperson for Women, urged Kanungu voters to re-elect President Museveni and all NRM flagbearers, citing continued development.

Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi reminded the people of Kigezi of the progress achieved under the NRM and called for continuity in leadership to sustain socio-economic transformation.

Kanungu District NRM Chairperson Caleb Tumwesimire Kipande presented a district status report highlighting gains from the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and other empowerment programs. He praised improvements in health, education, and service delivery, pledging to secure over 90% support for the NRM in the forthcoming general elections.
