Museveni Pledges Fisheries Reforms, Health Upgrade and Wealth Creation Drive in Kikuube

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has pledged to introduce strict regulations in the fishing sector, including banning fishing in breeding areas and curbing destructive fishing practices.

Addressing supporters during an NRM presidential campaign rally at Kiziranfumbi Secondary School playgrounds in Kikuube District, Museveni said the fisheries sector remains a “gold mine” whose full potential has not been realized due to unprofessional and illegal practices. He vowed that an NRM government would decisively address these challenges to enable the sector to thrive.

Museveni also emphasized the need for indigenous fishing communities along lakeshores to take greater responsibility in conserving fisheries resources, noting that sustainable practices are key to long-term benefits.

On health service delivery, Museveni confirmed plans to elevate Kikuube District Health Centre IV to a fully-fledged general hospital, alongside other improvements in the social services sector. He commended district leaders for their commitment to expanding health facilities and electricity distribution across all sub-counties, efforts he said have improved access to essential services.

The NRM flag bearer further promised increased investment in water distribution programs and other socioeconomic development initiatives in the district.

Turning to community leadership, Museveni challenged religious leaders in Kikuube to complement government wealth creation efforts by integrating messages of socioeconomic empowerment into their sermons. He underscored the influential role of faith leaders in guiding communities from poverty to sustainable wealth.

Museveni urged residents to take full advantage of existing government socioeconomic empowerment schemes, noting that the NRM government plans to increase funding for such programs. He guided the electorate on proper land utilization, viable commercial enterprises, and suitable projects for different land sizes.

He also outlined the NRM’s job creation strategy, highlighting opportunity sectors that have already generated millions of jobs nationwide. Museveni reaffirmed the government’s commitment to scaling up youth skills training as a key employment strategy, citing thousands of graduates from the Presidential Zonal Industrial Skilling Hubs.

The rally at Kiziranfumbi Secondary School marked another stop in Museveni’s nationwide campaign tour, focused on promoting economic transformation, service delivery, and sustainable development.
