Two Police Officers Found Murdered in Kamuli District

By Robert Segawa

Police in Kamuli District are investigating the killing of two of their own officers whose bodies were discovered along the Busota–Kisozo Road in Naibowa Village on the night of February 5, 2026, in what is believed to have been a criminal attack.

The deceased have been identified as Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Nambafu Peter, the Officer in Charge of Kiyunga Police Post under Kamuli Central Police Station, and Election Special Polling Constable (ESPC) Bakali Mwanje, aged about 26, who was also attached to Kiyunga Police Post.

According to the Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson, SSP Samson Lubega, the two officers left Kiyunga Police Post at around 9:00 p.m. on a motorcycle, reportedly heading to AIP Nambafu Peter’s residence.

About two hours later, at approximately 11:00 p.m., police received reports that two bodies had been discovered along the road. Responding officers recovered and secured several exhibits at the scene, which are considered crucial to the ongoing investigations.

Preliminary findings indicate that both officers sustained fatal head injuries consistent with a violent criminal assault.

The Uganda Police Force condemned the killings, describing them as a “cowardly act,” and extended condolences to the families, colleagues, and communities affected by the tragic incident.
