Police Raid Kiseka Market Over Stolen Car Parts

By Robert Segawa

Businesses in the Central Business District of Kampala came to a standstill as police personnel from Central Police Station and Jinja Road Police Station stormed Kiseka Market in a crackdown on stolen motor vehicle spare parts.

The operation followed public outcry from motorists who reported that thieves had been plucking spare parts from their vehicles, especially during traffic jams around Lugogo, Nakawa, and several other busy spots in the city.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the intelligence-led operation targeted shops suspected of dealing in stolen vehicle parts.

During the raid, six suspects—whose names were withheld—were arrested for allegedly being in possession of suspected stolen property. A search conducted at their respective shops led to the recovery of several items believed to be stolen and intended to aid ongoing investigations.

The recovered exhibits included old vehicle grilles, side mirrors with number plates written on them, spotlights, headlamps, and baby side mirrors.

Kawala added that the suspects have been charged with receiving and retaining suspected stolen goods. They are currently being held at Jinja Road Police Station pending prosecution.

Several of the recovered items were also marked and transported to Jinja Road Police Station to be kept as exhibits as investigations continue.

She further warned that similar intelligence-led operations will be conducted in different parts of Kampala, targeting shops suspected of dealing in stolen motor vehicle and motorcycle parts.
