The National Entrepreneurs and Traders Association of Uganda (NETA-Uganda) has petitioned Parliament and the Executive, through President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, calling for urgent action on a number of policy concerns.

In the petition, the association outlines its position on the ongoing enforcement of the trade order, the proposed taxes for the 2026/2027 financial year, and the proposed Sovereignty Bill. NETA-Uganda argues that the three policy measures, in their current form, pose a threat to business survival and the country’s economic stability.

Speaking to the media at the association’s offices in Kampala, NETA-Uganda President Thadeus Musoke Nagenda said the organization supports efforts aimed at creating orderly urban spaces and formalizing trade. However, he emphasized that implementation should be balanced to avoid negatively affecting livelihoods.

Nagenda also stated that the association rejects the proposed taxes on key products, as well as the Sovereignty Bill, which he described as anti-enterprise and anti-investment, warning that they could undermine financial stability.
The association has called on government to review the measures and engage stakeholders to ensure policies that support sustainable business growth.
