NRM Kayunga Chairperson Moses Karangwa Kalisa Dies in Fatal Road Crash

By Robert Segawa

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson for Kayunga District, Moses Karangwa Kalisa, has died following a tragic road traffic crash, police have confirmed.

The accident occurred at Suuka along the Kayunga–Jinja Road in Kayunga District at around 9:00 pm.

According to Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the crash involved a Toyota Hilux motor vehicle, registration number UG 0101 151, and an unidentified motorcycle.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Toyota Hilux was travelling from Kayunga towards Jinja. Upon reaching Suuka near the Lake Oil Petrol Station, the vehicle reportedly collided with an unidentified motorcyclist who was joining the main road.

As a result of the collision, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which overturned several times, leaving several occupants seriously injured.

Kananura said three passengers sustained injuries in the crash, including Mr. Karangwa Kalisa, who suffered critical injuries.

The victims were rushed to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital for treatment. Mr. Karangwa Kalisa was later referred to Nakasero Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police traffic officers cordoned off the scene and towed the damaged vehicle to Kayunga Police Station to allow the smooth flow of traffic as investigations into the crash continue.
