Police Hunt Masked Boda Boda Gang Behind Daylight Robbery in Nsambya

By Robert Segawa

Police in Kabalagala have launched a massive manhunt for a group of boda boda riders who robbed two men of an unspecified amount of cash in a brazen broad-daylight attack.

The incident occurred on Saturday at around 11:30 a.m. at the traffic lights near Nsambya Sharing Hall Junction, a few metres past Arena Mall along Gaba Road in Makindye Division.

The robbery, whose CCTV footage resurfaced on June 9, 2026, and is currently circulating on various social media platforms, involved a group of assailants who attacked two victims before stealing cash they had reportedly withdrawn from an unidentified forex bureau.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, police immediately commenced investigations after receiving the report.

“Upon receiving the initial report, police immediately commenced investigations. The crime scene was visited and documented, statements were recorded from relevant witnesses, CCTV footage was reviewed, and vital evidential material was recovered to support the ongoing inquiries,” Owoyesigyire said.

CCTV footage shows a group of masked boda boda riders intercepting a motorcycle carrying two men. The attackers reportedly kicked and assaulted the victims before targeting their bags, which are believed to have contained the cash.

After successfully carrying out the robbery, the gang sped off towards Gaba Road, leaving shocked onlookers at the scene and the victims lying in the middle of the road.

The incident comes amid growing concern over violent robberies involving motorcycle-riding gangs in Kampala. In April this year, seven suspects were charged and remanded to Luzira Prison following a daylight armed robbery involving a city businessman at a Centenary Bank branch on Nkrumah Road in central Kampala. The gang, armed with a machete, intercepted the victim and fled with a black backpack containing Shs620 million.

Police say efforts to identify, trace, and apprehend all the suspects involved in the latest robbery are ongoing.

“We wish to reassure the public that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Owoyesigyire said.

He further urged members of the public with information that could assist investigations to report it to the nearest police station or through established police communication channels.

The victims recorded statements at Kabalagala Police Station, and investigations into the robbery remain ongoing.
