Mohammad Sonko is one of Uganda’s well-known social media influencers, recognized for using digital platforms to transform lives and support vulnerable communities.
Sonko began his journalism career in 2015 at Pearl FM, where he worked alongside former Kawempe South legislator Bashir Kazibwe on The Inside Story, a program that aired from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. His work on the show helped him gain valuable experience in news reporting and current affairs.

In 2017, he joined ABS Television as a reporter, where he became known for breaking exclusive stories from different parts of the country. Two years later, in 2019, he joined BBS Terefayina as a senior reporter. He also worked as a reporter for New Vision, further strengthening his journalism career.
Drawing on his years of experience in mainstream media, Sonko later launched his own social media platforms. Through his YouTube channel, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and other digital platforms, he has built a large audience and established himself as one of Uganda’s most influential content creators.
Beyond reporting news, Sonko uses his platforms to highlight the challenges faced by vulnerable people, including the sick, disadvantaged families, and others in need. His posts have inspired followers and well-wishers to provide financial assistance, medical support, and other necessities, helping improve the lives of many people.
He is also known for using boda bodas to reach communities and deliver assistance, demonstrating how social media can be used as a tool for social impact.
Sonko has earned a reputation for breaking major stories before they appear on mainstream media platforms. In many instances, established media houses have reportedly followed up on stories that first appeared on his social media accounts.
According to sources familiar with his work, several media organizations continue to seek Sonko’s advice on strengthening their social media presence. His experience in digital storytelling and audience engagement has made him a valuable resource for media professionals.
In addition, many journalists who wish to establish their own social media platforms reportedly consult Sonko for guidance. He is said to share ideas on creating quality content that informs the public while promoting positive social change and improving people’s well-being.
His journey from traditional journalism to digital influence highlights the growing role of social media in shaping news, mobilizing communities, and driving meaningful social impact in Uganda.
