Police investigating the murder of former SC Villa captain David Owori have recovered more than 130 mobile phones and other items believed to be stolen, as efforts to establish the full network behind the crime continue.
According to investigators, Owori was robbed of an iPhone 14 Pro Max following his death. Efforts to track the stolen phone reportedly led police to two suspects identified as Munyaneza Bashir, alias “Jemo,” a suspected dealer in stolen mobile phones, and his associate, Magoba Samuel.
During the investigations, police recovered four bags containing a large collection of mobile phones and other electronic devices.
The recovered items include 80 iPhones, 40 Samsung phones, eight Redmi phones, two Tecno phones, two Infinix phones, two Vivo phones and three button phones. Police also recovered four phone motherboards and three iPads.
Several SIM cards from different telecommunications networks, including MTN, Safaricom, Airtel and Lyca, were also recovered.
Other items found during the operation included ladies’ bags containing identification documents, phone covers and hard drives.
Police said investigations are still ongoing to establish the wider network involved and determine whether the recovered exhibits can be linked to other reported cases of theft and robbery.
Meanwhile, Owori’s remains have been laid to rest at his ancestral home in Bendo B’ Village, Auyo Parish, Iyolwa Sub-county, Tororo District.
His body was transported from Makindye in Kampala, where he died, to his home area. Upon arrival, it was taken to Nyemera Church of Uganda, where a prayer service was held.
The service brought together family members, friends, former teammates, workmates and members of the community, who gathered to pay their respects and pray for Owori’s soul.
The former SC Villa captain’s death has since prompted an investigation that police say remains active as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding his killing and trace any other individuals who may have been involved.
