Police have arrested more than 17 suspects in connection with the murder of David Owor, captain of SC Villa, with investigators recovering a pair of shin guards suspected to have belonged to the deceased.
Owor, also known as Colgate, was attacked on August 4, 2026, in Dubai Zone, Makindye Division, by four assailants travelling on two motorcycles.
According to police, the attackers struck Owor with a paving block before fleeing and leaving him lying in a pool of blood.
A good Samaritan rushed him to Sir Apollo Clinic for first aid before he was transferred to Case Clinic, where he was pronounced dead.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said the suspects include three alleged stolen-phone promoters, five key suspects and nine associates of the prime suspects.
During interrogation, the key suspects reportedly told police that the group had been carrying out attacks on members of the public, allegedly using paving blocks as weapons. They also identified several alleged accomplices.
Police said the suspects revealed that on the day of the attack, they moved as a gang and targeted unsuspecting members of the public in areas around Nsambya, Nabisaalu, Kirombe and Makindye in Kampala.
On the night of August 4, the key suspects and others still at large allegedly attacked Owor and robbed him of his mobile phone.
Police later arrested one of the suspects, identified as Frank, alias Musezi, who reportedly led investigators to the recovery of an iPhone 14 Pro Max hidden in a toilet at Usafi and wrapped in silver foil paper.
The phone, recovered at Usafi Taxi Park near Usafi Market in Kampala, is suspected to have belonged to Owor.
SP Kawala said further searches at the suspects’ residences in Gangu Village, Kasubi, Kampala, led to the recovery of several exhibits, including two pairs of shoes, one of which had bloodstains and is suspected to be linked to the incident.
Police also recovered a pair of shin guards in a black bag, which investigators suspect belonged to Owor, as well as a canister of pepper spray, a motorcycle and other exhibits relevant to the ongoing investigation.
Police said efforts are continuing to trace and arrest suspects still at large, including Arali and Kato.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Owor’s murder are ongoing, and police said further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
