Police in Iganga have cancelled a carnival organized by Iganga Municipality Member of Parliament Abed Nasser Mudiobole, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Iganga Municipal Primary School.
According to police, the permission letter submitted by the organizers described the planned gathering as a thanksgiving ceremony, rather than a carnival. Police say the authorization therefore did not correspond with the nature of the event that was being planned.
Police also said Iganga Municipal Primary School had already been booked for a prayer conference organized by Bishop Onen Richard from August 26 to 28, 2026. Authorities said the venue could not immediately be made available for another event expected to attract a large crowd.
Another concern raised by police was the ongoing National Cleaning Day programme, with authorities saying the carnival could interfere with activities planned under the programme.
Police have advised MP Mudiobole to reschedule the event and, when applying for permission again, to clearly explain the exact nature of the gathering so that authorities can properly assess the event and make the necessary arrangements.
The carnival had been expected to attract large numbers of residents from Iganga Municipality and surrounding areas.
Mudiobole is yet to publicly respond to the police decision.
