Police Arrest Two Over Shs20m Kidnap Ransom Demand, Recover Stolen Vehicle

By Robert Segawa

Police in Nansana have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a 10-year-old child for a ransom of Shs20 million and recovered a motor vehicle allegedly stolen during the incident.

The incident occurred on October 4, 2026, at about 2pm in Senge, Wakiso Sub-county, Wakiso District.

The suspects, who were rescued from an angry mob, have been identified as Matovu Benard, 20, a resident of Nsumbi, Kyebando, Wakiso District, and Ssemata Christopher, 30, a boda boda rider and resident of the same area.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, preliminary investigations indicate that Matovu was called to a residence in Nansana East 2A, Wakiso District, at about 9am on October 4 to wash a silver Subaru Impreza, registration number UA 229AR.

After washing the vehicle, Matovu allegedly drove away with it, switched off his mobile phones and proceeded to Senge, Wakiso Sub-county, where he allegedly kidnapped the 10-year-old child from the family’s workshop.

Police allege that the suspect then transported the child to Nsumbi Village in Kyebando, where he demanded Shs20 million in ransom for the child’s release.

He also allegedly provided a bank account through which the ransom was to be paid.

Following investigations and a series of follow-up operations, police successfully recovered the child and the motor vehicle.

Kawala said the two suspects were rescued from a mob and are currently in police custody, where they are assisting with investigations into the alleged kidnapping, ransom demand and theft of the motor vehicle.

Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
