NRM’s Thomas Tayebwa massively elected deputy speaker of parliament

National Resistance Movement NRM’s and Ruhinda North MP Thomas Tayebwa has been elected the speaker of parliament to replace Hon. Anita Annet Among who resigned the position to contest for speaker of Parliament to replace her boss Jacob Oulanyah who succumbed to cancer on Sunday in Seattle USA an election she has also won.

Thomas Tayebwa who resigned his position has government Chief Whip has garnered 379 votes against Kyoga North MP, FDC and opposition backed candidate Okot Moses Bitek Junior who garnered 82 votes.

Parliament on today Friday seat at Kololo Independence grounds and voted the next speaker and Deputy speaker of the 11th parliament for the next four years following the death of Jacob Oulanyah in a seating presided over by the newly elected speaker of parliament Anita Annet Among

The seating was also informed by Article 82(4) of the Constitution of Uganda that stipulates that  no business shall be transacted in Parliament other than election to the office of Speaker at any time that office is vacant.
