Embattled Mulago National Refferal Hospital Executive Director Dr. Byarugaba Baterena has on Wednesday afternoon officially handed over office to the deputy executive director Dr. Rosemary Byanyima in presence of his lawyers.
Dr. Byarugaba was interdicted last week by the ministry of health permanent secretary Dr. Diana Atwine following his arrest and six other by the state hosue monitoring unit On allegations of fraudulent accounting, abuse of office, embezzlement and causing financial loss to the government of 28 billion shillings.
In his handover address, Dr. Byarugaba prided in the many achievements reached during his tenure of 11 years as the hospital Executive Director.

Among the achievements noted include the first oxygen plant in Uganda since independence was established in 2012 which oxygen plants were extended to Kawempe and Kiruddu hopsitals, dialysis was made simple that the country now boasts of over 60 dialysis machines at Mulago, Kiruddu and four for specialized services.
Dr.Byarugaba said he oversaw the construction of housing unit for the first time for Mulago hospital staff and that more are in the pipeline. Increased training of the human resources which has resulted into having more specialists and super specialists.
The ministry of health undersecretary Kenneth Akiiri urged the acting Executive Director Byanyima to put more focus on building the hospital brand which is currently riddled with corruption allegations
