Iron sheets saga: Don’t arrest the Ministers but fire them with strict conditions, Bishop Kibuuka

By Kabuye Ronald

The presiding Bishop for the Evangelical Orthodox Church in Uganda Jacinto Kibuuka in his Easter Sunday homily has urged the public to forgive and give room for conversion since Jesus Christ’ resurrection is aimed at giving hope, forgiveness, love, care, reconciliation and courage.

Bishop Kibuuka made this call in relation to the ongoing Iron Sheet scandal in the office of the prime Minister were over 22 Ministers, the Speaker of Parliament and 32 members of Parliament allegedly got a share of the diverted relief Iron sheets that were meant for Karamoja.

Bishop Kibuuka who led the Easter Sunday Divine Liturgy at Mamre International Prayer Centre in Janda, Namugongo, Wakiso district suggested that instead of wasting the tax payer’s money and the meagre government resources on the seemed implicated people who also admitted knowledge of the same, they should rather be made to resign their respectively positions of authority in addition to refunding the Iron sheets.

“This unfortunate scandal is catastrophic however, in faith and in wisdom we believe that the suspects can be relieved off their offices but should not be sent to prison since it will just bring more loss of resources for the government. They should instead bring back the diverted relief in terms of iron sheets and resign from their offices. I believe that they will understand and there will be room for their conversion other than tormenting them in prison while consuming the meager resources of the government. And therefore, I call upon the responsible offices to put that into consideration.” Said Bishop Kibuuka.

Bishop Jacinto Kibuuka emphasizing the point

Bishop Kibuuka said that since almost there is no immaculate on earth, everyone should look at one another generously and as friends so as to create a room for conversion since the focus should be put on the heavenly things not earthly ones thus defeating the wickedness, greed and corruption.

Bishop Kibuuka’s message comes when the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Mary Goretti Kimono Kitutu and her brother Micheal Naboya Kitutu, were remanded to Luzira prison by the Anti-Corruption Court for allegedly diverting over 14500   iron sheets meant for the Karamoja Community Empowerment Programme.

In the same way, Bishop Kibuuka reiterated his call of urging Ugandans to pray for Uganda’s president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni so that he wisely, bravely and ardently sign the Anti-Homosexuality bill 2023 into law.

“We are praying for you dear president and we pray that you bravely sign this bill into law so that Ugandans are protected especially the young ones. If they are protected then God will also protect you from the snares of the evil and the attacks of the evil people. President we are with you as you make this paramount signing of the Anti-homosexuality bill.” Said Bishop Kibuuka

Bishop Kibuuka also scoffed at those against the Anti-homosexuality bill saying that Uganda is a sovereign and religious state and therefore it should be left to act autonomously. Adding that it’s ok for the president to sign the bill for the salvation and protection of Ugandans.
