Minister Ssempijja defeated again: court cancels vote recount for Kalungu East

By Ahmed Senoga

Masaka chief Magistrate Charles Yeteise has stopped the vote recount in the 36 contested polling station for the position of Kalungu East Member of Parliament.

Court on Monday had allowed the Minister for Agriculture Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja’s application of vote recount in the 36 contested polling station but he has called it off after some ballot boxes were discovered to have been broken opened while others had pink instead of the orange seals that were used during the January 14 elections.

National Unity Platform (NUP) Kalungu Easr Mp-elect, Francis Katabaazi Katongole had also filed for an injunction seeking to block vote recount however it was yet to be heard.

Following the cancellation of the vote recount at Masaka Magistrates Court, minister Ssempijja declined to make any comment to the media.
