Opposition Forum for Democratic Change FDC leadership has submitted the newly elected district chairpersons to the National Electoral Commission and clarified that they are not aware of the extra ordinary National Delegates Conference which was called on 19th of September 2023 by the party chairperson Ambassador Waswa Birigwa.
In the letter authored on the 28th August 2023, addressed to the chairperson Electoral Commission, the party Secretary General Hon, Nathan Nandala Mafabi submitted the names of the newly elected district chairpersons who will chair district executives and districts conference since the old leadership ended as per the party election road map.
The letter also stated that they shall accordingly submit the new National Executive Council (NEC) after the delegates meeting of 6th October 2023 which will convene solely for election of Nation executive committee.
FDC also attached all the party’s resolutions since 2019 that culminated into the elections in the party for the chairperson’s perusal and information which were done in adherence to the party constitution and the Political Parties and Organizations Act 2005.
In the same letter, Nandala who communicates on behalf of FDC described the 19th September 2023 extra ordinary National Delegates Conference called by the FDC National Chairperson Ambassador Waswa Birigwa as an illegal notice which they have no knowledge about. Adding that only legitimate National Delegates Conference is that of 06th October 2023 which will convene at UMA Lugogo, Kampala to elect the new National Executive Committee leaders.
“The party in accordance with article 31 and 29 of the party’s constitution on 8th, August, 2023 issued a notice to all delegates to convene on the 6th October 2023 with a sole purpose of complying with section 10 of the political party and organizations act that mandatory requires the party to elect its executive regularly bearing in mind that the extended term is expiring on 7th October 2023.
However, the party has noted that there is another advertised Notice calling for extra- ordinary National delegate’s conference on the 19th, September 2023. This is to inform you that the said notice was issued without knowledge of the party structures, party president, Secretary General, Treasury General and yet on 28th, July, 2023, National Council passed a resolution to conclude structure elections. {annexed].
