The opposition Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has urged its members and supporters to register in the ongoing compilation of the village voters’ register ahead of the Friday, 10 July 2026 deadline.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday at the party headquarters, UPC spokesperson Sharon Oyat Arach described the upcoming Local Council elections as critical to grassroots governance and called on all eligible Ugandans to take part in the registration exercise.

Arach said the village council forms the foundation of local governance and service delivery, urging party members and supporters to mobilize their communities and ensure their details are accurately captured in the village voters’ register.
She reminded members that, under Electoral Commission guidelines, only individuals whose names appear on the village voters’ register will be eligible to vote or contest in the LC I elections.
The Electoral Commission launched the nationwide compilation of the village voters’ register on 6 July 2026 in preparation for the forthcoming Local Council I, II and Women Council elections. The exercise will run until Friday, 10 July 2026, covering villages across the country.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to participating in the local council elections, Arach emphasized the significance of the registration exercise.
“The LC I remains the basic unit of governance and the foundation of service delivery at the grassroots. It is therefore imperative that all members take this exercise seriously,” she said.
