As the world celebrates women’s day, refugee women also live to testify the true meaning of the day following the achievements they have obtained after mercy Beyond borders came to their rescue to endeavor these women live a better life by empowering them by giving them micro Enterprise loans
MBB, a non-profit organization duly registered by both the US and Uganda governments, works towards empowerment of women and girls; builds their capacity through training women on entrepreneurial skills before disbursement of loans, encourages the spirit of innovation among women entrepreneurs by encouraging them to adopt the use of ICT like banking using MobileMoney, and leveraging other technological benefits that enhances business profitability.
Most of these women who flee the war with almost nothing say that the day is worth celebrating after their life changed.
Ali Jolmon from Olua 2 settlement camp who got a loan last year and says she was able to set up a shop, repay the loan and remain successful in her bussiness, she says with the profits she has also been able to educate her children. I have educated my children now that my business is booming and now my daughter who came at a young age is now is senior 1. She says she is very grateful that MBB came to her rescue because she has now live independently
Vol Riek Jol from Olua 1 settlement says with the loan her business is still running even after repaying it adding that on top of the business she bought a cow and now she doesn’t have to pay for milk for her children. she says she will be able to see her children live a comfortable life with the help of the business.
Christine limane one of this year’s beneficiary selling groceries in pagirinya market says with the loan she acquired she will be able to boost her and continue educating her 4 children since she is a widow. “After we ran to Uganda with my family after the war broke out my husband died here, now I don’t have anyone to help me, I am sure with the loan I will boost my bussiness and also be able to take all my 4 children to school.
According to the United Nations Women, the theme for International Women’s Day 2020 is “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Womens Rights, in Uganda Women’s day celebrations will be in Malukhu Grounds in Mbale district under the theme: “Celebrating 25years of the 1995 Constitution Milestones on Promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Uganda”
