Teachers urged to use continuous assessments as end of term exams

By Jumah Kakomo

Teachers have been advised to consider giving continuous assessments to learners which will be used as end of term exams to save term.

Due to covid-19 pandemic and the need to close wasted education gap during the lockdown, Ministry of education and sports introduced a new curriculum called, “Abridged curriculum” to help students catch up with the studies.

The permanent secretary of ministry of education and sports, Ketty Lamaro while addressing the press on the recent introduced Abridged curriculum at Uganda media centre (UMC), said teachers had started giving students tests which consumes a lot of time yet the ministry introduced new curriculum to save time, adding that assessments is the only way to save time.

Lamaro also revealed that the ministry finalized the training of the trainees who are going to train teachers on the curriculum and they are finalizing the procurement of books for the new curriculum.

Furthermore she highlighted that, this curriculum is for only continuing classes like primary one to primary six and from senior two, senior three and five and it is going to work for 1-3years when the situation normalizes then schools will go back to normal curriculum, and UNEB will set exams following this curriculum.
