The National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership led by their presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has tasked the national Independent Electoral Commission chairperson justice Simon Byabakama to either take charge of the electoral process or resign together with his staff on account of incompetence.
This was revealed by Bobi wine while addressing a press conference shortly after meeting with the EC chairperson justice Byakama and other official in the meeting were journalists were blocked out at the commission headquarters on jinja road in Kampala.
Bobi wine who first narrated the ordeal and violence attached with photographic evidence endured ever since his nomination which include among others killing of his supporters, arrests, detentions, brutality meted on them, blocking their campaign rallies among other atrocities by the police and army to the electoral commission before asking the EC to act according if indeed they are in charge of the process.
Bobi wine told journalists that they reported to the commission because they wanted the entire world to know what’s happening but also to be on record that they brought to the attention of the commission, the illegalities being done by the security agents and some government officials like the resident district commissioners since whenever he talked to EC chairperson he denied knowledge of the happenings saying that he wasn’t on social media.
He also decried of the double standards by the security and the electoral commission of taking sides while implementing the Standard Operating Procedures against Covid19 since NRM candidate Museveni irrespective of not following them he is never interrupted but instead heavily protected.
In the same way Bobi wine announced that effective tomorrow they will resume with their campaign program starting in the areas of Namutuba district.
He assured people in the areas he was unable to campaign in for various reasons that they are to adjust their program to make sure they reach them.
Meanwhile there has been heavy security deployment in Kampala areas in preparation of Bobi wine visit to the electoral commission.
It should be noted that on Tuesday, Bobi wine suspended his campaigning program after his car was shot at on the wind screens and tyres leading to its break down. The incident followed the injuring of the head of his security detail handed to him by the EC ASP Kato and his music producer sir. Dan Magic using a sharp object by the police in Kayunga on the head and mouth and nose respectively.
