Two other human rights lawyers were arrested along with Nicholas Opiyo

It has been established that two other human rights lawyers were arrested along with the human rights lawyer, activist and executive director Chapter four Nicholas Opiyo.

The other arrested youthful lawyers include Anthony Odur and Esomu Obure Peter Simon who were having lunch with Nicholas Opiyo from Lamaro restaurant in Kamwokya where picked up by plain clothed men.

It should be noted that Uganda Police force confirmed they arrested renowned human rights lawyer, activist and executive director of Chapter four Uganda Nicholas Opiyo working with the joint security forces but didn’t make any mention of two other lawyers.

Police said Nicolas Opiyo is being detained at the Special Investigations division on charges of alleged money laundering and related malicious acts

“We would like to confirm the arrest of Lawyer Nicholas Opio, by a Joint Task team of Security and Financial Intelligence, on allegations of money laundering and related malicious acts. The investigations are progressing well and any new developments will be communicated in due course. He remains in our custody at the Special Investigations Division.” Reads a confirmation message on police official social media accounts.
