Police arrests Bizonto comedians for promoting sectarianism, to arraign them in court

By Hannah Marion Namukasa

Police has on Friday morning raided radio Simba offices in Bukoto, a Kampala suburb and arrested three members of the Bizonto comedy group who also double as presenters at the same radio station for jumping a bond on charges of promoting sectarianism and inciting violence.

The arrested include: Julius Sserwanja alias Kidomoole sabazonto, Marceli Mbabali alias giant zonto and Gold ki Matono alias Opeto Jajja Zonto.

According to their coworker at radio Simba Omulangira Ndausi, police has given skipping bond as the reason for their arrest.

It should be noted that in July 2020 the four members of the group were arrested at Radio Simba over satirical skit that authorities think it was promoting sectarianism.

The CID spokesperson, Charles Twine, said they would be arraigned at Buganda Road Magistrate’s Court later today because the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had sanctioned their file.
