Ssegirinya Muhammad Lawyer’s contradictions hands him further remand

By Mukembo Wilfred

Buganda Road Grade one Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu has further remanded Kawempe North MP-elect, Mr Muhammad Ssegirinya alias Mr. Update to Kitalya Prison up to 15th, April.

The remand followed his bail application flop due to contradictory submission by his lawyers in court.

Ssegirinya’s lawyers  Abdul Kiryowa and Shamim Malende made several contradictory statements which left the presiding magistrate confused hence further remand of the MP-elect.

For instance, Mr Kiryowa told court that they had prepared for only bail application and not hearing of the case. However, Ms Malende, told court that they were ready to hear the evidence of prosecution witnesses but would prepare for cross examination in the next court sitting.

Both lawyers however insisted that the prosecution had not served them or disclosed anything to them as required by the law despite their efforts to access her.

However, Ms Joan Keko, the State prosecutor dismissed Ssegirinya lawyers’ claims asserting that they have never approached.

Ssegirinya was arrested at Mini Price in Kampala demonstrating together with others demanding for unconditional release of the NUP members held incommunicado and Bobi Wine’ purported victory in the just concluded 2021 elections.
