People of Lira East division are a credible lot. They have stood with UPC and their son Jimmy Akena in respect of their fallen Hero President Milton Obote.
They vote UPC deliberately because they still remember and appreciate the significant contributions their only son did to their area.
I worked some 6 years ago in Nebbi Municipal council and the then chairman was a UPC stalwart who told me that he can never abandon UPC and he regularly donned red ties and shirts in recognition of the party colours.
It’s over three decades now and people are still hallucinating about those epoch olden days when UPC was in power!
On the other hand, the regime Hajji Nadduli helped bring in power and also tried to deny passage for the casket of the former President Milton Obote because of the atrocities committed in Luwero sees him as rubbish before it leaves power!
The people of Luwero more so who lost their loved ones voted out all regime candidates for parliamentary and local elections when the regime is still in control.
.
This is a tip of the iceberg in view of what is boiling.
Museveni getting 25% and Kyagulanyi 74% in Luwero is a bold message to those who can read the future.
What has culminated into this drastic change in figures is the obvious.
Find any regime diehards and ask them what to show for the 40years?
Gulu is a city, Arua a city, Mbarara a city, Mityana, sheema, Apach etc are Municipalities and no one thinks about Luwero!
Luweros’ 3 towns of Bombo, wobulenzi and Luwero are better than many municipal councils on all basic indicators of population, and development.
The district headquarters is like Ngalonkalu primary school and the hospital has just been remembered in name but operates at health centre IV capacity.
This was a protest vote to remind the leaders their responsibility to own up and make good.
Next time, I believe if nothing happens, no one will ever stand in front of people to sloganeer NRM and be safe.
To be specific, a UPC candidate will win NRM.
The biggest problem many people want diviners to foretell good stuff yet it’s the duty of people like us to warn and save a future disappointment. “Forewarned….is forearmed”.
Oct 9th is the day we shall hold memorial service for the Luwero War dead.
