LCs to identify the vulnerable people who qualify for Covid 19 lock down relief

By Kabuye Ronald

Government has revealed that local council one committees will be in charge of identifying the vulnerable people qualifying to receive the government Covid 19 lock down relief cash handouts.

This was revealed by the Minister of Finance Matia Kasaija who is also a member of the National covid19 taskforce led by the prime minister and set up by the president.

Kasaija said the best way they will know the vulnerable people is through the LCs since they know the status of the people in their areas.

“People have been asking how government will know the vulnerable people. That’s why we have chosen to ask the LCs who know these people, to give us a list and their telephone numbers.” Said Kasaija.

Kasaija assured the public that they cannot fail to get resources for the same cause. Adding that even if it means foregoing some things to ensure that the vulnerable people get what to eat they will.

The minister said the amount of money to be given out will be determined by the resource envelop and the number of beneficiaries.

It should be recalled that on Sunday, the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja said that government will give out relief in terms of direct cash handout to the vulnerable people but not food stuff
