“I have learnt with great sorrow of the passing of Gen. Stephen T. Rwabantu ‘Gonya’ (RO/0081), a war hero & comrade for many years. Always understanding & a true gentleman. He will be missed.
My heartfelt condolences to the family, friends & the UPDF fraternity. #RIP Comrade” read his tweet

It’s said that on 3rd August Gen Steven Rwabantu’s health status had deteriorated and had undergone operation in hospital.

By Press time, UPDF was yet to issue a detailed statement about Gen Rwabantu’s death.

it should be recalled that in March, 2018, speaking at the function to decorate the promoted officers, Maj.Gen. Rwabantu said him and a few others fought hard to elevate the country to where it is right now, adding they cannot allow anyone play with the precious gift of peace they fought for.

“The army you see here was because of efforts of by president Museveni and we must congratulate him for being able to mobilise young people like myself which was not an easy job,” Rwabantu said.

“If you want to mess up with the peace we are enjoying, the crocodile in me will come out.”
