Mercy Corp in consortium, Save the children Uganda and waver have donated hand washing equipments worthy over 19600,000/- to assist health centres and communities in karenga district to boost the fight against covid 19 .
The consignment comprises of 100 boxes of soap, 2000 Jericans 7 Jerricans of liquid soap and 7 tanks which are to be shared amongst various centres and health facilitates in the district.

According to the health system strengthening officer for Mercy corps Acheng Sophie, the donation is aimed at strengthening hand washing in the area as one of the ways to avoid contracting the virus.
“Since some of our local people are reluctant to wearing masks, as partners we realized that at least hand washing can easily be followed by locals if put at specific points of entry like markets, Health centres, schools among others.

We have also looked at hand washing as a long term measure to promote hygiene since our target is not only covid19 but also other diseases that may arise out failure to wash hands thus we want our people to get used” said Acheng Sophie
Mercy Corp is as well supporting karamoja region in reducing cases of Malnutrition which has resulted into stunting in children. They are doing this basing on four pillars which include health component, wash, lively hood and inclusive governance.
The district health officer Andrew Rews ILuko received equipments will go long way in reduction of exposing people to the risk of contracting Covid 19 and other related diseases hence emphasizing the need to put focus on prevention.
The cumulative cases of Karenga district Covid 19 stands at 74 out of which 66 are on home based care management and 2 at ICU in moroto regional Refferal . The District Health officer applauded the partners for the donation
