Leaders in Iganga district have called for the upgrade of the Iganga general hospital also known as Nakavule hospital after it emerged the best as the performer in all government hospital.
In the ministry of health annual report for 2020/21, put Iganga general hospital also known as Nakavule as the best performer for the financial year 2020/21 in all general government hospitals in terms of service delivery out of 169 facilities.

The district health officer for iganga Dr muwanguzi david attributed the victory to team work and dedication to work by health workers and good hospital management.
The grading of the best hospital was based on the total number of outpatients, admissions, major surgeries, performed deliveries and antenatal visits, immunization, family planning cases handled among others.
According to the chairperson LC.5 of Iganga hospital Gabula Ezra, attributed the good performance of the hospital to the good morals exhibited by all service providers with in the gates of the hospital. However Gabula added that as leaders they are coming up with a master plan to see that the government buys the idea of setting up a private wing at Nakavule that will cost over 2 billion Ugandan shillings to cater for those individuals that want to be handled in private rooms and the money to be collected out of it will facilitate other programs at hospital and also help in paying the staff.

Besides the good performance, leaders and administrators have reminded government about the prolonged demand of turning the hospital into a referral in reference to the big numbers of patients admitted in a day that stands at 600 people according to the OPD records.
Ramathan Gaboli the hospital administrator at Iganga general hospital, he says the lack of blood bank and oxygen plant at the hospital are some of the greatest challenges that the hospital faces. The hospital serves people at least from 5 districts and being positioned on the high way the demand for services is too high despite the small budget it operates on calling for its upgrade.

The survey indicates that there was notable increase in total immunization by 28.4% and major surgeries by 18.6% in general hospitals .compared to previous year 2020.while postnatal attendance reduced by 30.5% which the ministry said could have a negative effect on the neonatal outcomes .
