The Chairperson person of Christian Ecumenical Council of Uganda CECU also the presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Orthodox Church in Uganda Jacinto Kibuuka which led in this year’s Martyrs day celebrations at Mamre Prayer Centre, Namugongo Janda has urged Ugandans to make use of the Parish Development Model which he believes if handed well it can alleviate people from poverty.

Bishop Kibuuka said that the PDM initiative is a good poverty alleviation program however, much is still needed to be done in terms of civic education so that people don’t treat it as a political campaign tool but rather take it as a program which aims at helping them fight poverty.

“We urge government to use religious leaders and opinion leaders to understand PDM system and also spread the good news about it.
Government must also standstill to fight corruption otherwise if not, the PDM money may end up in people’s pockets instead of helping the targeted people.” Said Bishop Kibuuka

CECU leaders also appealed to government to give them financial support for the celebration of the Martyrs day as it the case with the Anglican and Roman Catholic since they are all Christians who must cherish, emulate and celebrate the Christianity faith heroes.

“Dominations like Romanism and Anglicanism, are simply traditions but the Faith is Christianity where we all fall, we share the same master, Bible and belief.

We therefore, request government to support us all who celebrate Martyrs day as opposed to a few.” Said Bishop Kibuuka on behalf of CECU

Bishop Kibuuka urged the public to refrain from bloodshed and refocus on God for the country to have development, peace and freedom.

The chief preacher Bishop Peter Ndabuki, from Machakos, Kenya applauded Uganda for standing against homosexuality.

CECU is an umbrella body for six religions that include: Evangelical Orthodox Church, Charismatic Episcopal Church, Worldwide Anglican Church, Orthodox Anglican Church, Reformed Anglican Church, Orthodox Anglican church
