Hazues.com Launches Feeding Programme to Combat Food Poverty in Kampala’s Slums

By Kabuye Ronald

Hazues.com, a dedicated humanitarian organization, is calling for support for its Feeding Programme, a crucial initiative aimed at tackling food poverty in the slums of Kampala. The program focuses on providing nutritious meals to children and their families, with the goal of enhancing health, reducing economic pressure, and fostering overall well-being.

Background: Initiated in 2019, the Feeding Projects originated as part of the organization’s daily education classes for children aged 3-6 in three slum communities. Recognizing the prevalence of undernourishment and health issues among these children, Hazues.com introduced free nutritious meals and snacks. This initiative addresses the significant challenge faced by children unable to actively participate in educational activities due to fatigue from inadequate food. Initially serving slums such as Katanga, Kimumbasa, and Nakulabye, the program has expanded its reach and impact.

Program Highlights:

  1. The Feeding Programme prioritizes providing nutritious daily meals to vulnerable children, promoting proper nutrition. This, in turn, improves their health, enhances disease resistance, increases concentration, positively influences behavior, and contributes to better learning progress.
  2. Responding to the economic impacts of the pandemic, Hazues.com introduced food parcels containing enough local produce to prepare 100 meals. The organization has distributed over 2 million food parcels to 32,498 households, preventing hunger for thousands of people.

Challenges in the Slums: Residents of Kampala’s slums heavily rely on low-paid, informal, and unskilled labor. The economic repercussions of lockdowns have been severe, leading to increased food prices and heightened vulnerability among these communities.

Impact Achieved: Since 2019, Hazues.com has provided an impressive 45 million meals to hungry and vulnerable families and children. The program not only offers short-term relief but also contributes to long-term empowerment through education, protection, and skill development.

Male Deogratius’s Story: Male, a beneficiary of the Feeding Programme, expressed her gratitude, highlighting the substantial impact of food parcels on her life. The organization strongly believes that every child should have access to healthy, nutritious food, and every parent should know where their next meal is coming from.

How You Can Make a Difference: Supporting the Feeding Programme is easy and impactful. A contribution of just 1 USD can provide a hot, nutritious meal for a vulnerable and undernourished child at the daily feeding project. Your support is crucial in ensuring that children receive the help they need.

Next Steps and Future Plans: In 2022, an independent evaluation affirmed the effectiveness of the Feeding Project. Looking ahead, Hazues.com plans to collaborate with local efforts, NGOs, and address the root causes of food insecurity. The organization aims to sustain progress and results over time, emphasizing collaboration and community engagement.

Your Invitation to Positive Change: Your donation holds the power to make a significant impact on the lives of these children and families in Kampala’s slums. Hazues.com invites you to contribute to the Feeding Programme, becoming an integral part of the positive change being created in the heart of these communities.
