The Traffic and Road Safety Directorate has issued a nationwide call for motorcycle owners to reclaim their impounded vehicles from various police stations, particularly in the Kampala metropolitan area, where thousands of motorcycles have accumulated over an extended period.

According to Superintendent of Police Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the directorate, many of the motorcycles currently parked at police stations were impounded for minor offenses, while others have no pending cases against them. Owners are encouraged to visit their respective police stations to prove ownership and retrieve their motorcycles from the officers in charge.

“It is imperative for all those who have motorcycles parked at the stations to come forward, present necessary ownership documentation, and collect their vehicles without any hindrance,” stated Superintendent Kananura. He also emphasized that individuals who financed their motorcycles through loans should bring relevant paperwork from their respective banks to facilitate the process.

Superintendent Kananura acknowledged that some motorcycles were impounded due to being involved in thefts or robberies, with their rightful owners potentially unaware of their whereabouts. He urged victims of theft or robbery to visit police stations to check if their motorcycles are among those held and to begin the process of reclaiming them.
The directive aims to streamline operations at police stations and return motorcycles to their rightful owners promptly. It is part of efforts by the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate to ensure efficient management of impounded vehicles across the country.

Owners are advised to contact their local police stations for specific details and procedures regarding the reclaiming of their motorcycles. The directorate reassures the public of their commitment to facilitating this process in a fair and transparent manner, encouraging compliance with all necessary documentation and regulations.
