Police in Bulambuli district have launched a manhunt for a couple accused of brutally torturing their 11-year-old biological son to death after he refused to wash dishes before eating his food upon returning from school.

The deceased, identified as Ebusulu Wyclif, was a Primary Four pupil at Kikobero Primary School in Buyaga town council, Bulambuli district.
According to Rogers Taitika, the spokesperson for Mt. Elgon region, the tragic incident unfolded when the boy’s mother instructed him to wash the dishes before having his meal. Allegedly, the boy started crying in response to the request.

Taitika confirmed that the boy’s father and his wife (names withheld) proceeded to physically assault him, using sticks to beat and kick him until he collapsed. Disturbed neighbors intervened and rushed the severely injured boy to a nearby private clinic, Bulambuli Health Care. Sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“The community, together with the police, have launched a manhunt in nearby bushes and villages to apprehend the couple responsible for this heinous act,” Taitika stated.
The police have transported the body to Mbale Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. The findings from the postmortem will serve as crucial evidence in the legal proceedings against the perpetrators.

“This is a tragic and deeply disturbing case of child abuse, and we are committed to ensuring that justice is served for young Ebusulu Wyclif,” Taitika emphasized.
The authorities urge anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the couple to come forward and assist in their swift apprehension. The community’s outcry against such acts of violence underscores the urgent need for awareness and intervention to protect vulnerable children from abuse and neglect.
