Catholic Priest Arrested in Connection with Murder of URA Official

By Robert Segawa

The Uganda Police Force has identified a Catholic priest as the primary suspect in the stabbing death of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) official Ngorok John Bosco. The tragic incident occurred Saturday night in Kitoro, Entebbe municipality.

Police reports indicate that Ngorok, a domestic tax collector, was stabbed and subsequently rushed to Entebbe Grade Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Before his death, Ngorok reportedly identified his attacker, leading to the arrest of Rev. Father Dominic Alinga of Illili Parish in Nakapiripit District, Moroto Catholic Diocese.

Police spokesperson ACP Kituma Rusoke revealed that Father Alinga, who had been previously suspended from his duties over allegations of embezzling over shillings 6 million in offertory funds, was apprehended by Tororo police. He is expected to be transferred to Entebbe for further questioning and legal proceedings.

In a related development, the Moroto Diocese, led by Bishop Damienno Guzzette, issued a formal suspension of Father Alinga on July 17, 2024. The diocese’s statement, addressed to all Catholic authorities, reads: “It is with regret that I have to communicate the suspension of Rev. Father Dominic Alinga from the priestly ministry with effect from July 17, 2024. He is therefore not permitted to celebrate Holy Mass or administer any sacraments within the diocese of Moroto or the universal Catholic Church. We ask for your prayers for Father Dominic, that he may receive the grace of conversion and amendment of life.”

There are also allegations that Father Alinga had previously resided with the late Ngorok and had failed to return shillings 3 million borrowed from him. This aspect of the case is still under investigation.

The police are continuing their investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the murder and any potential links between the financial dispute and the fatal stabbing.
