The Sezibwa region police have successfully apprehended 56-year-old Lukwago David, who was filmed torturing his 12-year-old biological son in a disturbing video that went viral. The incident occurred at Mbiko Cell, Njeru Town Council, Buikwe District, last Saturday.
In the video, Lukwago is seen covering the minor with a mosquito net, tying it around his neck, and hanging him from a tree. The onlookers eventually intervened to stop the abuse.
Police investigations reveal that Lukwago had abandoned his official home in Butembe, Mbiko, to live with an unnamed partner, leaving his son without proper care. The abuse reportedly stemmed from the child’s attempt to seek help from neighbors, an action that angered Lukwago.
According to Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, Lukwago’s frustration led him to retrieve the boy from a nearby playground and subject him to severe torture at his residence.
Kituuma Rusoke also issued a warning to the public regarding the recording of such incidents.
“While videos can serve as evidence, rescuing the victim should always take precedence over capturing the crime on camera,” Rusoke emphasized.
Lukwago is currently in custody at Mbiko Police Station, facing charges of torture and potential attempted murder. The case highlights serious concerns about child abuse and the need for immediate intervention in such situations.
