Kasanje Town Council on Saturday kicked off a crucial two-day vaccination campaign aimed at tackling rabies among cats and dogs in the community. The initiative has seen an impressive turnout from local residents eager to protect their pets and prevent the spread of the disease.
The comprehensive vaccination effort is spearheaded by a team of veterinary doctors from various veterinary schools, led by Dr. Lubega Arnold, a prominent veterinary officer at the town council. The team is addressing three key areas: rabies vaccination, family planning for pets, and performing minor surgeries.
Dr. Lubega highlighted the urgency of the campaign, citing a troubling statistic from last year six recorded rabies deaths in the area. “Our goal is to prevent such tragedies from recurring,” Dr. Lubega stated. “By vaccinating pets, we can significantly reduce the risk of rabies and ensure a safer environment for our community.”
To facilitate future tracking and enforcement, all vaccinated dogs will be marked with a distinctive yellow tag. This measure will help the council identify vaccinated animals and manage efforts to phase out unvaccinated pets.
The town council’s proactive approach has been met with strong community support, underscoring the residents’ commitment to safeguarding public health and pet welfare. The vaccination drive is expected to make a substantial impact on curbing rabies and enhancing the overall safety of the Kasanje community.
