Police have confirmed that they are closely investigating the shooting of six suspected robbers who were gunned down while attempting to rob a bank at Acacia Mall, Kamwokya, in Kampala District. The suspects, who were killed in the confrontation with security operatives, have been identified as key members of a dangerous criminal network known for broad-daylight robberies targeting individuals suspected of carrying large sums of money.

The suspects killed in the incident include notorious robber Hamis Mohammed, alias “Chemical,” who faced multiple charges of theft and aggravated robbery, and Lukwago Sharif, Ssebaka Micheal, Fahadi Katongoole, alias “Jawesi,” Adam Tuyisabe, and Manereho Zaake, alias “Daddy Esse.” In addition, Abdallahuman Bakata, alias “Pancho,” and Tomusange Farouk are currently in police custody.
Addressing the media at the police headquarters in Naguru, Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed that the Minister of Internal Affairs, RTD Gen. Kahinda Otafire, and the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, asked the police to investigate whether there was excessive force in the execution of the intelligence operation.

Kituuma described the gang as a significant threat to public safety, revealing that the criminals began their criminal careers as boxers in slum gyms before evolving into organized criminal gangs. This gang has been linked to a series of high-profile robberies, including the theft of 57.4 million shillings from a headmistress in December and the killing of Ssewakilyanga Ronald in Kiira. They were also responsible for the interception and robbery of 100 million shillings from a coffee dealer in early January at Matugga.
“The gang members were targeting people suspected of carrying large sums of money, and they have become a real danger to the public,” Kituuma stated. “We urge anyone with concerns about excessive force used in the operation to come forward and share their statements to aid in our ongoing investigation.”
The police emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and the swift prosecution of criminal elements within the community.
