Police Speaks Out on The Tragic Death of Vipers FC Player Abubaker Lawal in Entebbe

By Robert Segawa
Police at Kajansi division in Wakiso district are actively investigating the tragic death of Abubaker Lawal, a Nigerian national and player for Vipers Sports Club. Initial reports spread across social media on Monday Afternoon suggesting that Lawal had died in a road accident while traveling from Entebbe International Airport. However, a press release issued by police in the evening revealed that the incident was not a road accident, but rather an apparent fall from the third floor of the Voice Mall shopping arcade.

According to preliminary findings, Lawal had arrived at the mall in his vehicle, registration number UBQ 695G, to meet his friend, Omary Naima, a Tanzanian national residing in Room 416 since February 20, 2025. Naima reported that she left Lawal in the room, preparing tea, before heading to a nearby game center. Around 8:00 am on February 24, Lawal reportedly fell from the balcony of the building. He was immediately rushed to Entebbe Referral Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan area, confirmed that police are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting thorough interrogations to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Among the items recovered from Lawal’s belongings, found in a black bag, were two smartphones, a pair of open shoes, headsets, a training kit, and chargers.

Police have assured the public that further updates will be shared as the investigation unfolds.
