Five Dead, 21 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision on Kampala-Bombo Road

By Robert Segawa

A tragic road accident occurred last night at Mayanja Valley along the Kampala-Bombo Road, resulting in five confirmed deaths and 21 others sustaining serious injuries. The crash involved nine motor vehicles and one motorcycle.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of a Fuso Super Grande (registration number UBK 769A), traveling from Kampala to Bombo, lost control while descending at Mayanja Valley. This caused a chain reaction, leading to a collision with multiple vehicles, including a Toyota Noah, several Hiaces, and a motorcycle.

According to Michael Kananura, the Community Liaison Officer for the Traffic and Road Safety Department, five occupants in the other vehicles, along with the motorcycle rider, were killed instantly. Twenty-one passengers in a Toyota Omnibus sustained various injuries and were quickly rushed to Mulago Hospital for treatment.

The vehicles involved in the crash have been towed to Kawempe Police Station for inspection as investigations into the cause of the accident continue. The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

Kananura urged all motorists to prioritize road safety, emphasizing the importance of maintaining vehicles, adhering to speed limits, and driving defensively to prevent such tragic incidents in the future. “We all have a responsibility to ensure the roads are safe for everyone,” he added.
