AOCC’s Bishop Birungi Calls for End to Corruption and Injustice in Uganda

By Kabuye Ronald

The Auxiliary Bishop for Kampala in the Antiochian Orthodox Catholic Church, Rt. Rev. Joseph Birungi, has used the solemn occasion of the Way of the Cross prayers to deliver a passionate appeal to Uganda’s leaders and those in authority to abandon corruption, injustice, and all forms of unfairness for the sake of the nation’s development and the well-being of its citizens.

Bishop Birungi made the remarks at the Mamre International Prayer Centre in Janda, Namugongo, Wakiso District, during a special deliverance and healing Way of the Cross service. The divine prayers were led by the Church’s presiding Bishop in Uganda, Rt. Rev. Jacinto Kibuuka, and drew a massive congregation of faithful Christians seeking spiritual renewal.

In his message, Bishop Birungi emphasized the spiritual significance of the Way of the Cross and called on all Ugandans to embrace righteousness. He encouraged citizens to pray fervently for their families and communities, especially in light of rising immorality and the breakdown of homes.

“With the school holidays around the corner, I urge parents to be more vigilant and prayerful,” Bishop Birungi said. “Many children are being led astray, and it is our duty as a community to guide them back to godly values.”

He further urged believers to pray for national transformation, particularly for leaders to have a change of heart and begin to prioritize the needs of the people over personal interests.

“Let our leaders crucify themselves for the sake of the people they serve, just as Jesus did for humanity. That is the true essence of servant leadership,” Bishop Birungi proclaimed.

The event, marked by deep prayer and reflection, served as a spiritual healing, deliverance and reminder of the power of faith to inspire change in both individuals and institutions.
